Written and directed by Walter Veltroni, Ora tocca a noi – storia di Pio La Torre meanders through the words of many important voices, from Giuseppe Tornatore, to Maurizio De Lucia the current Chief Prosecutor of Palermo, but also the former Chief Inspector of Palermo Francesco Accordino, Rosario Di Salvo’s daughter, up to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. “The Law that bears his name contains elements that have proved essential to hit and defeat the mafia”.
In this docu-film Walter Veltroni tells for the first time the story of an exemplary life, entirely devoted to civil commitment and to the fight against the Mafia, begun alongside the laborers. Veltroni draws the portrait of an intense, shy, determined man, whose death has dramatically made one of the many heroes which, unfortunately, our country has needed.
“Now it’s up to us” – ora tocca a noi – is what Pio La Torre said to his friend Emanuele Macaluso few days before his murder, aware that Cosa Nostra was tightening the circle around him and his battle for legality.
