At the time of the German occupation a swindler, Bertone, is arrested by the SS: he is accused of having been paid by the relatives of those killed and deportees, boasting no adherence to the German command. Now the same man is exposed to the danger of being shot; but to the high officer who interrogates him comes the idea of making use of the skill shown by the defendant in weaving cheats for his own ends.
