Sienna Miller and Golshifteh Farahami play two women from the suburbs of Chicago with very different personalities, and whose stories will be meant to cross. The first is Marylin, a dissatisfied switchboard operator married to Harvey, a criminal parasite. The second is Mona, a Muslim woman who has married the man she loves (but from whom she cannot have children) and who works in the family food shop, constantly oppressed by her mother-in-law. When Marylin discovers that her husband is cheating on her, she quits overnight and drops everything to fulfill her dream: to participate in a popular belly dance contest held in Santa Fe. Soon her path will meet that of Mona, also strongly determined to escape from her family. The two young women travel America without turning, lightly, to the rhythm of dance rehearsals and dance performances, until one of them finds out that the other is wanted by the police.
